Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What Conditions Benefit From Spinal Decompression?

A.

- Severe Back or Neck Pain - Herniated/Bulging Disc(s)
- Degenerative Disc Disease - Facet Syndrome

- Sciatica

- Some Forms of Spinal Stenosis
- Spondylolisthesis - Certain Failed Back Surgeries
- Weakness in the arms/hands - Numbness in arms/hands
- Weakness in the legs/feet - Numbness in the legs/feet

Q. How often will I need treatment?

A. This can only be determined after your initial consultation. Your doctor will recommend the number of visits necessary to relieve your pain and/or correct your problem. The number of treatments will depend on the severity of your condition, how long you have had it, any complicating factors, and your health history.

Q. When will I start to see results?

A. Most patients report a relief of their symptoms after the first few sessions. Typically, a patient will see signigicant improvement after the 3rd week of treatment.

Q. Is Spinal Decompression Painful?

A. Although the process of stretching the spine may seem like it may hurt, it is actually a painless and comfortable procedure. Before beginning treatment your doctor will perform a series of diagnostic examinations. This information will be used to program the spinal decompression computer; which ensures that you get only the amount of decompressive force on your spine that you need. This force places only minimal stress on the body. In fact, it is so comfortable most people sleep while underging treatment. It is quite normal to have mild soreness for approximately 2 hours after treatment. Every effort will be made to ensure that any soreness is kept to a minimum before you are sent home.

Q. Will my problem come back after treatment?

A. Long-term studies show that up to 89.3% of patients who complete a program of spinal decompression continue to do well after treatment. Researchers that followed up with patients up to 4 years after completing treatment found most patients were taking little to no pain medication and none had to go for more invasive procedures such as injections or surgery.

Q. Who does not qualify for treatment?

A. We have had many patients undergo our treatment program with the DRX9000 and achieve amazing results. However, there are a few cases that do not make good candidates. This would include:

Q. How does the DRX9000™ differ from traction ?

A. The DRX9000™ creates a negative pressure or a vacuum inside the disc. This effect causes the disc to pull-in the herniation which is due to an increase in negative pressure, known as vaccuum effect, it also causes the flow of blood and nutrients back into the disc allowing the body's natural fibroblastic response to heal the injury and re-hydrate the disc.

Traction and inversion tables, at best, can lower the intradiscal pressure from a +90 to a +30 mmHg. The DRX9000™ is clinically proven to reduce the intradiscal pressure to between a -150 to -200 mmHg. Traction also triggers the body's normal response to stretching by creating painful muscle spasms that worsen the pain in affected area.
